Spanish Accent Guide

Spanish accents can change tense and meaning, so the app will point them out when you miss one. Use this page as a quick keyboard cheat sheet when typing answers.

Windows International Keyboard

If you type Spanish often, add the United States-International keyboard in Windows. Then accents are easier than memorizing Alt codes.

iPhone and iPad

  • Hold the base letter, such as a, e, i, o, u, or n.
  • Slide to the accented version, then release.
  • For ¿ and ¡, hold the ? or ! key.
  • Adding the Spanish keyboard can make these faster.

Android

  • Hold the base letter, such as a, e, i, o, u, or n.
  • Tap or slide to the accented character.
  • Hold ? or ! for Spanish punctuation.
  • Gboard and most Android keyboards support this by default.

Why accents matter

In Spanish conjugation, an accent can separate one tense from another. For example, hablo means "I speak" and habló means "he/she/you spoke." The app will still count an accent-only miss as correct, but it will show the accented form so you can learn it.
